We had a great time at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters as we learned about growing coffee in and around the rain forests of Costa Rica. We saw a video, smelled coffee seeds and beans, and tried to lift a giant bag of coffee. Thank you GMCR!

Investigations
-
In our final Math Investigation, students continue to develop their understanding of length and how it is measured.
They first compare lengths of objects by indirect and direct comparison and then use linear units
to measure objects and compare measurements. Students learn about
the relationship between sizes of units and the results of measuring, for example: the smaller the unit, the
greater the count for the same length.

The Rain Forest
After reading about the animals, plants and birds in the rain forest, we are creating our very own rain forest! We have been learning many interesting facts too- and continue to be amazed by this ecosystem. We are comparing the "habitats" found in the layers of the forest; the emergent, canopy, understory and forest floor. Each layer provides food and shelter for a variety of animals and birds.

The Great Mail Race
We received a surprise letter addressed to our class from an elementary school in Page, Arizona. It was a letter from The Great Mail Race where second grade students from all over the country write letters to each other in hopes of learning more about each others cities, towns, schools and classrooms. Our class picked schools from places such as Hawaii, South Dakota, Oregon, California, etc. and we mailed our letters out last week. We are anxiously waiting for return mail!
