Autumn Leaves

Our week was all about leaves...and why leaves change color. We learned that leaves change from green to yellow, red, brown, and/or orange because they lose their chlorophyl. In winter, trees store their nutrients inside and when it is warm enough send the nutrients back out and leaves grow and are green once again. This mini unit fit perfectly in with our Weather Watcher's activities. We spent time outside once again drawing a beautiful warm and sunny day.
We enjoyed reading Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert and made our own Leaf Man pictures during literacy.

All About Bugs!

The field habitat
We had a spectacular warm and sunny morning at the Audubon Nature Center in Huntington. We investigated insect adaptations and metamorphosis as we searched for insects in forest, field, and pond habitats. We had an up-close look at the diversity of these incredible organisms. Children are welcome to bring their families and explore the acres of trails and habitats of the nature center.
