Our final Four Winds was all about Frogs! We observed, listened and learned about these amazing amphibians with the help of our four parent volunteers. A HUGE thank you to Remy's, Eli's, Riley's and Katie's parents for bringing this program into our classroom.

And we had a celebration with pops, popcorn and cider!

21 Days Later!

What an exciting week! Our chicks began to hatch late Monday afternoon and by Tuesday morning we had four chicks! By the end of the day on Tuesday, fifteen more chicks hatched! We were amazed how quickly they grew and loved holding them. On Friday, the chicks were delivered to a farm in Duxbury.

Math Fun

Our scary-cute trolls!

For the past two weeks, children worked in small groups preparing for a retell of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The mathematical skills included in this unit were weighing, sorting and comparing, estimating and verifying, handling money, geometry and measuring. Each component involved problem solving, mathematical reasoning and communication. Children used the necessary mathematics in meaningful ways to complete each step, culminating in a retell with story maps, props and models.

Goats at School!

Charlotte's mom brought in two baby goats! We met them on our playground and were able to pet and hold them, what a special treat for us!

Our Chick Eggs!

We are taking care of our eggs by turning them everyday, checking the temperature of the incubator and making sure the humidity is just right! Our hatch date is May 24th!

Painting the Forest

We created beautiful forest pictures during outdoor learning on Thursday afternoon.

100th Day of School!

We are celebrating the 100th day on Tuesday, February 6th. We will be completing all sorts of fun math and literacy activities on this day. One activity is “Sharing Collections”. Students are asked to bring in a collection of 100 items. All collections need to be back by our 100th day. Examples of items to collect are:

Pennies, crayons, beads, matchbox cars, lego’s, erasers, marshmallows, toothpicks, pebbles, noodles, paper clips, stickers, goldfish, cereal… the possibilities are endless!

All About Books

Our Animal Research Books are complete! We have included many facts about our animals, used "Kidspirartion" to organize our facts on the computer and used "Kidpix" to make diagrams with labels on the computer. We also included headings, bold print, a glossary, a table of contents page and a "Meet the Author" page. This project came together beautifully as children incorporated technology into their research and final products. We are now experts on many animals!! (and non-fiction text features!)

Adventure Play

One component of our weekly routine is Adventure Play. These games and activities invite children to challenge themselves, practice cooperation, provide opportunities to practice decision making skills, and build upon our classroom community skills.

One of our favorites is called "Car and Driver" where children are encouraged to participate in "challenge by choice". One child is the "car", and may close their eyes for the "challenge", but may open their eyes at any time "by choice". What fun it is to "drive" our "cars" around our classroom!
